Dear Teacher,

The Toronto Youth Theatre (TYT) returns with our fourth season of theatre for and by young people. The TYT is a non-profit registered charity that is dedicated to giving students the chance to work and perform in a professional theatre setting.

The TYT gives young people (aged 8-19) the opportunity for creative expression through theatre.

The fundamental goal of the TYT is to assist in the personal, cultural, and social development of young people through the practice of theatre – empowering them to develop their own artistic voice under the mentorship of professional artists and educators.

The TYT is open to students of all backgrounds, regardless of situation or status. Over a twelve-week period, TYT members will learn the fundamentals of theatre, or improve their skills, en route to creating a full theatrical production in a professional venue.

Our first year was a huge success, with over 300 students attending auditions. Thirty-five talented young actors and fifteen tech savvy students, representing thirty schools from across the GTA, were cast in the company’s sold-out production of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show and a similar number were cast in our acclaimed production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Our second season kicked off with a change of venue to the new Young Centre for the Performing Arts in the distillery. There, the Toronto Youth Theatre reached new hights with its incredible productions of Urinetown The Musical and Cabaret.

Since then we have continued our tradition of producing high-quality productions of classic broadway shows while branching out into original works written by our young casts and our talented artistic staff. Original productions like A Musical Called Robin Hood, Fairytale Ending, Supernatural, and Ridiculous solidified our reputation as one of the best and most relevant theatres for young people in all of Canada.

We are looking for enthusiastic students to join the company. No prior theatre experience is required.

If you teach students that are interested in any area of theatre or performance, we would love to see them at our auditions. Interested students can apply online or over the phone.

We Also have an exciting and very successful six week Summer Program that includes intensive classes in acting, movement, voice and dance and rehearsals for two fantastic original productions. Applications for the 2008 summer program will continue through June!

If you have any questions, concerns, or would like more information on the company, please feel free to contact us at 416-915-6747, or email info@torontoyouththeatre.ca.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Hutton
